M & S Technologies Smart System 20/20
The Smart System 20/20 from M & S Technologies is a PC based integrated visual assessment system capable of producing various Acuity Tests, Patient Education and other video media to assist the examiner in the evaluation of adult vision.
The system consists of a Wireless Infra-red hand controller, Central Processing Unit, Video Control Module, 17” LCD type monitor (Flat CRT type Monitor is optional) and VAFCS Software. A light package including only the Software and the Wireless controller is also available.
The system is capable of directly accessing all necessary acuity tests and measurements and has built in features such as: Low Contrast Vision Testing, Letter and Number Randomization, Illiteracy Symbols, LEA Numbers, Optotype Pointer, Cycling Optotypes, Red\Green Display, Allen Pictures, Adult Fixation Dot, Children fixation Video.
The unit can be calibrated to 6 feet (direct view) or be utilized in a mirrored examination room. The system is also capable of integration into a EMR or Practice management system with its available dual-video capability. Smart System 20/20™ can also be used to provide patient education in the exam room, improving doctor efficiency!
Wireless Hand Controller
The wireless hand controller provides direct access to over 38 tests and measurements. The unit is designed for the examiner to efficiently project eye charts and other diagnostic tests to assist in the evaluation of the adult vision. The hand controller is ergonomically designed for ease of use, provides video control on demand (optional) and can be upgraded to include future testing methods and measurements. Phosphorescent ink allows for illumination in low light conditions and are recharged by artificial light. Non-Programmable. Includes Infra-red detector.
VAFCS Software and Central Processing Unit
The central processor is the unit that interprets all hand controller commands. The system set-up functions including calibration, controller settings, etc are maintained in the CPU. The system set up is both simple and user friendly. The user determines the focal length from the facial plane to the monitor, which letters to be displayed, select ETDRS or random line set up, the number of characters per line and number of lines down, the lines to be displayed and enters this information accordingly. The system will then assign the selections and is now ready for use. Upon use, the hand controller sends the information to the CPU, which, in turn, sends the information to the monitor for display. The physical size of the CPU is about 4” high by 11” wide and 15” deep. Different locations are possible: in front of the patient in direct view applications, wall mounted behind the patient for mirrored applications, alongside the refraction table, or if space permits, on top of the table.
The system has a one-year warranty. There is an upgrade charge for the CPU to enable the system to operate in a EMR\Practice Management environment.
The software was developed in house and written in such a manner as to easily make changes, add new tests and perform updates with ease. The software controls and interprets the user keystrokes, passes the information to the CPU and waits for the next instruction. The software allows for the customization and set up of the keypad controller, foot pedal and system parameters to accommodate your individual need. The software is PC based and requires specific hardware in order to maintain required resolution. The software is both copyrighted and patented.
Monitor Choices
LCD Type Monitor - We currently utilize a 17" LCD Flat Screen Monitor, manufactured to M&S specifications, with exceptionally high resolution along with a 450:1 nominal contrast ratio. The monitor is a stand alone unit or can mount flat to the wall, an adjustable mount for angled viewing and mounted on a wall channel behind the patient for mirrored applications. We encourage quarterly calibrations to ensure precise acuity measurements.
CRT Type Monitor - We offer a 17” Professional Monitor (optional) capable of producing a high resolution of 1280 x 1024 dots per inch, which produce precise optotype recognition at virtually any calibration distance. This is critical for correct testing procedures. The physical size of the monitor is 15” wide x 12” high x 18” deep. The calibration of the monitor is very easy and we encourage quarterly calibrations to ensure precise acuity measurements.
Accessories
We offer an optional printer which prints the screening results and all pertinent blank fields such as name, address, medical records number, etc. The fields can then be filled in by the clinician and placed in patient file for follow-up and/or review. We also offer a roll about cart for portable applications.
